I’m really trying hard to hold my patient until next month, craving for the most anticipated game of the year, GTA IV. Meanwhile, Microsoft has announced the release of a limited edition Grand Theft Auto IV, designed for the Xbox 360. Sigmatek introduces the new SHD-7100 PMP with a 4.3″ WQVGA screen (480 × 272) and a lousy 1GB storage size. This player houses an SD card slot, an FM tuner, a built-in speaker, USB 2.0 and more. The SHD-7100 is compatible with MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, AIFF, WMV9, JPG, BMP, GIF, PNG. The battery provides 10 hours of video and 15 hours of audio, measures are 127 x 77.9 x 11.8 mm. No word on price or availability but I honestly don’t see the 7100 able to compete with other PMPs as long as it provides only 1GB of storage, 1GB? c’mon, are you kidding me?

This pictures may seem to look like the announced AppStore feature for the iphone and iPod Touch. From what we are able to spot, it has Top 50 and Genres sections, aside searching function and Updates area. The rest looks pretty much the same as the Installer.app, so hold your breath until June.

So many rumors are floating around the Meizu M8 cellular-player concerning launching date, interface design, iPhone cloning issues and more. One of the latest rumbling refers to the following pictures, presenting the presumably GUI of the M8 device. Although we have no resource to verify the authenticity, it sure looks different from previous publications and distinguishes the Meizu from the iPhone. Stay tuned for the next scuttlebutt, in days to come.

I wasn’t sure how to call this thing other than big “Huzpa”. This is what happened: Friday morning, Sony has announced what they call “fresh start”, meaning the company offers buying Vaio TZ laptop models, clean from all the crappy-overloaded bloatware, you get when you buy one of their notebooks. So far so good, until Sony made it audaciously clear it will charge $50 to remove all the crapware. Do you get it? Sony impudently wanted to take money from buyers for the sake of delivering wiped-clean computers?!?!
To our satisfaction, Sony has immediately realized how senseless was their decision, and fixed things to our benefit by announcing the following:
“Starting March 22, Sony will offer Fresh Start free of charge. We want VAIO users to have the best experience possible with our PCs, and we believe Fresh Start will help ensure that happens right out-of-the-box.”

Every year, Greenpeace releases the “Guide to Greener Electronics”, indicating the “green” level of electronic companies and placing them on a 0-10 analog meter scale. The guide, which rates performance based on policies and practices on toxic chemicals and electronic waste, shows that Asian companies like Samsung and Toshiba have won the highest score, gaining 7.7 points, while Nintendo has scored only 0.3 points, “earning” the most feckless e-waste company of 2008. Other 18 tech companies in the guide, include Microsoft, Sharp, Sony Ericsson, Philips, Acer, Hp, Motorola, and more. According to Greenpeace toxic waste campaigner, Iza Kruszewska, “The challenge is clear. To be truly green, the IT industry needs to commit to designing products that are free of toxic chemicals, are energy efficient, durable, and recyclable while taking full responsibility for them globally, including when they become waste“, and we say - Amen.

SanDisk plans to launch Sansa Sessions, a new initiative to distribute music and movies on microSD cards. Their first steps will probably take place with the purchase of a new 8GB Sansa Fuze player, as SanDisk intend to give the buyers a free microSD card, loaded with 55 DRM-free tracks from more than 50 new artists, including All Time Low, Ladytron, Magnet, Nada Surf, Of Montreal and The Coup. The cause is twofold, first reason is to attract music junkies to buy the new Fuze and second, is for promotional sake. In any case, we get 512MB microSD card, free of charge, and novice artists earn free exposure.

I’ve always wanted a gadget like Dixau. It can easily copy any text from your hard copy material, like papers, books or magazines, and shift it directly to any laptop. This feature enables people transferring full pages into their computers or just copy a word / line and translate them with online dictionaries. To do so, just drag it down the paper, mark the desirable section and copy with the built in camera. The text will be displaced onto your screen and will be available to use digitally. Available in Korea for $90, the Dixau can be very useful, specially for students, bloggers and journalists. Having said that, we have no details concerning language support, so you might get stuck with Korean content.
