I received a twitter message last night, stating there’s a rumor that Acer is planning to get into the games console market. Personally, i embrace any new player, coming into a jammed territory, i really think it can contribute to the competition and provide us, the gamers, more game titles, better graphics and advanced accessories. However, Acer need to create something really good in order to deflect our attention from PS3, Wii or XBOX 360 consoles. According to Acer Senior Vice President, James T.Wong, the company plans to create sort of an open platform console, based on “game machine” PC technology, and take this advantage to compete with all other closed and proprietary systems. Regretfully, there’s nothing more to say other then this dull info, so stay tuned.

Apple’s iPhone SDK
For months we’ve been hearing tons of speculations about it, but today, we finally get a chance to look at Apple’s long-awaited iPhone SDK pack and stand on this exciting developer kit essence. Based on OS X Xcode source code, Cupertino will provide iPhone developers the same API and developing tools, used by Apple, including Cocoa Touch app framework, 3-axis accelerometer, access to an interface builder - providing drag n’ drop structuring of the GUI and automated power management, location enabled app, 3D graphics accelerators, full access to media capabilities and to the iPhone simulator, in order to experiment and run the developing application on OS X.

Nav N’ Go introduces its latest iGO MyWay 8 application, designed to provide GPS navigation services for the iPhone or the iPod Touch devices. The shown prototype is compatible with turn by turn directions and location tracking function, thanks to the built-in WiFi connection and the small GPS receiver, plugged to the dock connector. Only thing left, is for Apple to be kind enough to open the handset for 3rd party developers - hopefully today at the SDK event. Check the videos after the break.

Hauppauge Digital unveils a new portable media player at the CeBIT show in Hannover. The new pMP (no mistake) comes with a 3.5″ screen (320×240), SD/MMC slot, USB 2.0 port and an e-book reader. The well-known TV cards manufacturer brings its expertise to the player, adding a “double twin” TV tuner for Vista and Media Center, mobile Freeview TV reception, EPG and text functions. It is compatible with AVI, MPG, VOB, MPEG4, ASP, and DivX XviD 4.0/5.0 video files, MP3, WAV audio files and JPEG image files. Hauppauge claims the 200gm device can run up to 4 hours of video and will be available around April for €150. With a clean metal design, the new pMP might have a great potential, but c’mon Hauppauge, can’t you hire some talented designers? The machine looks like and old rusty transistor.

After months of speculations, we finally can take a glimpse on the new Meizu M8 mini One. Although it is just an early prototype without any functional features, except the home screen, dialer and media player, we’re able to get a first impression and learn what to expect for. Suspiciously, The M8 looks similar to the iPhone, both from the outside and the inside GUI, it has a TV-output, 3 buttons downside and a touchscreen (not a multi-touch like the iphone’s). The final device will feature a Windows CE 6.0 OS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 3.4″ display (720 x 480), 3MP camera and many more. Meizu says the final hardware is complete and ready to be launched in China, somewhere around August.

Remember the rumors about the 9″ Eee PC? Turns out they were correct, as Asus reveals a 9-inches LCD Eee at the CeBIT show in Hannover. To be more accurate, it’s 8.9-inch but that is only a scrubby difference. The new Eee looks similar to the 7″ model, only it houses 8GB to 12GB storage size, equipped with a larger touchpad and jammed with a bigger picture. The Eee PC is expected to be released in the “middle” of 2008 for €399, and we are looking for more details to be delivered tomorrow at the press event.
