iPhone Firmware 2.2 Is Now Officially Available, Introducing Google Street View And Some Other Tweaks
Apple has finally released firmware update 2.2, available for downloading via your iTunes software, right away. The new 246MB update brings some neat stuff to your iphone/ipod devices, including Google Street View, over-the-air podcast downloads (which lets you listen to podcast, either threw wifi connection or 3G network), public transit and walking directions, more stabilized Safari browser and even the ability to share your location via email. In addition, you get some Bug fixes, together with toggling auto-text correction function, better sound quality in Visual Voicemail messages and a new App rating feature, that allows you to rank any Apple’s App Store application, once you delete it. Epson Endeavor Na01 Mini Netbook Makes a Debut In Japan
If you’ve been thinking that Epson is all about printers and digital frames, think twice, as the Japanese corporation has announced the release of the Endeavor Na01 mini, which complies with the netbooks category, packing a 10.2-inch 1024 x 600 screen, together with the usual Intel Atom N270 1.6Ghz processor and Windows XP onboard. It is expected to go live in Japan these days with a sleeky black design and some handy specs, including three USB 2.0 ports, SD/MMC card reader, VGA output, 802.11b/g WiFi connectivity, 1GB of RAM and a 3 cell battery, all for 46,800 Yen ($485). Still no word, either the Endeavor will ever hit Western shores, but word on the street says it will.

Dell Rolls Out a 32GB Inspiron Mini 9 Netbook In Japan
Remember this reddish Dell Mini 9 netbook, that showed up in the wild, back on May? turns out it will make a debut in Japan tommorow morning with a 32GB SSD drive and a pink cover as an option. Regretfully, there’s no word on worldwide availability, but Japanese citizens will have the priviledge to buy it for ¥54,980 or $565. In the meantime, the rest of you can settle with either the black or the white versions.
Update: the 32GB SSD drive upgrade is now available for all Mini 9 buyers for $100 more, over the standard 4GB SSD version.
Samsung To Introduce The New P3 PMP
Nothing is official yet, but looks like Samsung has started paving the way for the new P3 PMP, to be shown off on January, at the CES show in Vegas. Meanwhile, the company has delivered the P2 successor to some lucky bloggers, to tease us with more info and images. From their tidbits, we learn the new multimedia player features a haptic (480 x 272) 3-inch touchscreen, along with an FM tuner, a microphone, a single speaker, and storage capacities, ranged from 4GB up to 32GB. You also get Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity with A2DP support, and new customizable interface. Formats wise, the new device can play MP3, WMA, OGG, AAC, FLAC, MPEG4, WMV, H.264, JPG, PNG, and BMP files, for 30 hours of audio or 5 hours of video. Still, no word on price or availability, but be sure the Koreans will release those details soon.

UMID To Introduce a New 4.8″ Mini Netbook
Korean company UMID has introduced a new miniscule netbook, equipped with a 4.8-inch 1024 x 600 touchscreen, Intel Atom 1.1Ghz/1.33GHz processors, 512BMB/1GB of RAM, 1.3MP camera, and a microSDHC slot inside. As for connectivity, the new device packs all the latest technologies, including WiBro, WiMAX, HSDPA, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0, while storage is ranged between 8GB up to 32GB SSD. You get a chance to choose either Windows XP/Vista or Linux system and don’t forget the DMB / DVB-T tuner, also included within this 315g machine. Still, no word on price or availability, but Korean visitors will probably get it first.

iRiver Spinn Gets Price Cut
We’re not sure either it’s just a holidays gift or recession circumstances, but Korean company, iRiver, has decided to cut the Spinn’s expropriated prices and make them more affordable for the audiophiles. Thus, you get a chance to buy the 4GB player for $189.99 ($10 cut) or the 8GB version for $229.99 ($20 cut). Expect changes to take place starting from today.
Update: it seems these price cuts will include the E100 and the LPlayer.

ASUS Eee PC 1002HA Netbook Announced
Like you haven’t had enough, Asus has released another netbook model to the overcrowded market. This time, it’s the Eee PC 1002HA, which has the slim and stylish S101 flavor, only with a more reasonable price tag. It is equipped with a 10.1-inch LED-backlit display, the usual Intel Atom 1.6GHz CPU, 160GB hard-drive and 1GB of RAM. In addition, the Eee 1002HA has three USB 2.0 ports, ethernet, VGA output, and SD card slot, all packed in a 1.2kg, across 26.4 x 18.1 x 2.76cm box. As for the downside, the new netbook comes with a miniscule two-cell 4200mAh battery, but the good news are the slashed prices, that stand at $565 (compared to the S101 $700 pricing). Official shipping date remains unclear, although there’s a certitude it won’t be long.

HP Unveils The New 10-Inch Mini 1000 Netbook
The guys at HP probably feel the saber, landing on their neck, with their HP 2133 Mini Note left behind, in the fierce netbook competition, having a relatively weak Via C7-M processor inside, instead of the mighty Intel Atom N270 CPU, placed in others. But the situation is about to change, as HP has just introduced the new 10-inch Mini 1000 netbook, equipped with an Intel Atom version, 2.25lbs weight and competitive $399 starting price. Unfortunately, there are no further details to tell, so stay tuned for more to come.
Update1: As mentioned, HP ditched the weak VIA C7-M processor in favor of the Atom N270 CPU, coming with a 10.2-inch 1024 x 769 display, instead of the great 1280 x 768 screen on the 2133. You will be able to choose either 512MB, 1GB or 2GB RAM, while the XP version gets only 1GB. Storage wise, HP offers a 60GB 4200 rpm HDD or 8GB/16GB SSD. Other specs include 2 USB ports, an SD slot, VGA webcam, eSATA port, 802.11b/g WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity (optional). The Mini 1000 XP Home edition version, will be available in mid-December, starting at $399, as the Linux MIE version, which is a special Ubuntu-based OS, designed by HP itself, will make a debut in January, for $379.

Dell To Rename The Mini 9 Netbook As Vostro A90
After two sturdy months in the market, Dell decides to rebrand its own Inspiron Mini 9, as Vostro A90 business netbook, to be available in Japan only, for an expropriated price of ¥92,830 ($999). This awkward move doesn’t have any reason attached, and the price tag might hint the company tries to target premium markets, but despite the refreshing design, the specs remain the same, including the usual Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 processor, an 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 display, 1GB of RAM and up to 8GB SSD storage drive. In short, it really doesn’t matter if Dell smells something we don’t or the Inspiron version wasn’t answering the expectations, bottom line is that people can do the math for themselves, either buying a Mini 9 for $449 or nabbing a Vostro A90 for almost $1000, at their next Asian trip.

NEC Joins The Party, Announces The New LaVie Light Netbook
Japanese company NEC introduces its first LaVie Light netbook version, trying to distinguish itself from traditional “all white” design, with a massive black case and a whitish keyboard, that create a constrained overlook, in my opinion. The rest of the specs, pretty much remain the same, including the usual 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 LCD screen, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, 1.3MP webcam, VGA output, 3 USB ports, SD slot, 802.11b/g WiFi, 160GB HDD storage and Windows XP Home aboard. The LaVie Light should be available around November, priced almost similar to all other Netbooks, already available in the market.

MacBook 2008: Apple Announces New MacBook And MacBook Pro With Glass Multitouch Trackpad
MacBook 2008 event at Cupertino is over, and we get 4 major announcements from Apple, as follows:
- New MacBook laptop.
- New MacBook Pro laptop.
- New boosted MacBook Air laptop.
- New 24-inch Cinema Display.
It’s not that we were totally surprised from today’s new announcements. After all, there’s always a strange commotion, preceding Apple’s events, feeding us with rumors, and anonymous tipsters who emerge from the dark with some hidden images. Luckily, this time wasn’t different from others, as we were able to catch up with all the tidbits and leaked pictures, during those recent weeks. Asus All-In-One Touchscreen PC Is Now Available For Pre-Order
Asus has totally confused me on this one, and I’m not so sure why in heaven they insist on attaching their Eee brand to the new all-in-one touchscreen PC, but I guess the company wants to build some reputation to their non-portable computers, and the Eee moniker can definitely assist. Anyways, this touchscreen desktop, which includes a 15.6-inch LCD display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, a 1.3MP camera, memory card slot, built-in WiFi and 160GB HDD, is up for pre-order on UK website Play.com, priced at £399.99 ($685) and expected to be officially released on November 20th.

MSI Wind U120 Netbook To Be Released On December With a 3.5G WWAN Inside
MSI can be very pleased with recent global recognition they gain, thanks to the 10-inch U100 netbook, that catches a lot of attention within the ultra-mini-portable category, together with Asus, Acer and Dell. But the fierce competition doesn’t let them rest on their laurels, and the company battles to stay up with technology, in order to preserve their reputation. Thereupon, we get a chance to see some early Wind U120 press shots, two months before the estimated launch date, on December, and all we can say is that we’re very pleased with the results. Truth to tell, the U120 has exactly the same looks that its U100 sibling demonstrates, but the real difference is from the inside, as the Wind 2 packs either 20GB / 40GB SSD or 120GB HDD, along with 802.11n WiFi and built-in 3.5G WWAN (HSDPA), that lets you use a SIM card to surf the internet from any place, without the need for a hotspot. To make you even more happy, this top-notch device will be offered under $600, so hold your breath until December comes.
Update: DigiTimes says the U120 should be available in November for $552, with that 3.5G WWAN.

AMD To Announce a Break Up
AMD is expected to announce a break up tomorrow morning, due to growing demand for independent, leading-edge foundry production capabilities and increasing R&D costs. According to sources, the giant chipmaker will be splitting up into two companies, as the first one will be responsible for chips designing and the second, for the manufacturing. Additionally, the company has issued a PR release, saying:
“AMD and Advanced Technology Investment Company of Abu Dhabi to Create New Leading-Edge Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. Mubadala increases investment in financially-stronger AMD, which is simultaneously unlocking the value of its manufacturing assets”
The meaning is that Advanced Technology Investment Company will strengthen AMD’s financial position by purchasing 55.6 percent of The Foundry (manufacturing company), for $5.1 billion dollar, and both sides will cooperate together, in order to create a clear stand alone leader in global semiconductor manufacturing, that will be able to equally confront Intel. Asus Eee PC S101 High-End Netbook Gets Official
Eee PC S101 high-end netbook was officially announced, and will be available in brown, champagne and graphite hues, together with a 10.2-inch 16:9 LED backlit display, Intel Atom-based 1.6GHz N270 processor (945GME chipset) and only 2.2cm thick. It will be running either Windows XP or Linux, while storing a 4-in-1 card reader, three USB 2.0 ports, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi 802.11n and up to 64GB SSD. As for pricing, it’s not going to be cheap - $699 for 16GB SSD, Windows XP version or $699 for 32GB SSD with Linux version or $799 for 64GB SSD version with Linux onboard.
